A thriller short film from the UK starring
JACK BANDEIRA, JOSH BARROW and SORCHA GROUNDSELL
Written and Directed by JOHN MALONEY
Produced by DHIRAJ MAHEY
When Carl’s little brother opens up about a past trauma, Carl begins a secret project to avenge him - until he stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens to destroy their relationship.
Part European-arthouse and part British-realist, THE TRAP is a taut cat-and-mouse thriller about brotherly love, and how our compulsion to protect the ones closest to us can sometimes do more harm than good.
CAST & CREW
THE TRAP is based on a character study about male shame and violence, developed by John and Dhiraj over several years. It's a 'true' indie film, made 100% outside the system with our own cash, and shot in 3 manic days in South London, March 2018, with a tiny but awesome crew.
JACK BANDEIRA appears in new Netflix feature THE KING, the BBC adaptation of NOUGHTS AND CROSSES, SEX EDUCATION and the new film version of THE WITCHER. JOSH BARROW has recently finished the West End transfer of SILK ROAD, the acclaimed one-man play by Alex Oates, and THE STRANGER at The Print House in Notting Hill. SORCHA GROUNDSELL recently starred as the lead role in Netflix science fiction series THE INNOCENTS.
Writer-director JOHN MALONEY is from the West Midlands and studied at Oxford University, and works as a filmmaker at BAFTA, the National Theatre and a bunch of other places. His short LISTEN HARD was funded by the British Library and he has studied screenwriting with Clio Barnard and directing actors at the NFTS.
Producer DHIRAJ MAHEY executive produced Gareth Tunley’s BAFTA-nominated debut feature THE GHOUL (2017) as well as many short films including Nick Abrahams’ EKKI MUKK, which won the Best Film prize at London Short Film Festival, and has over 3 million views online.
SAMIRA OBERBERG is a London-based cinematographer originally from Germany. She is a graduate of the prestigious Cinematography MA course at the NFTS and is a member of Illuminatrix Rising. Sound Editor and Dubbing Mixer ADAM WOODHAMS is a graduate of the NFTS Sound Editing MA programme and won the MPSE Golden Reel Verna Fields Award for Sound Editing in 2019.
